FRESHLY WHIPPED AT CRC SPEEDSHOW 2011 – INDOORS – PART 2

On an icey cold winters weekend the pavilion’s of the ASB Showgrounds were the place to be for this years CRC Speeshow. The big talking points of this year’s event were the Lotus F1 car, the BMW 3.0 CSL and the standoff between The NZV8 Series and the runaway child, V8 Supertourers.

The BMW 3.0 CSL, a touring car legend that dared to be different. While its shark inspired nose is hated by some it is one of the most famous car designs of all time with the nickname ‘batmobile’.

Undeniably an iconic figure in NZ Motorsport and a personal childhood favourite, Greg Murphy was out signing posters for fans. Image20110723-IMG_9174

Kate Benson’s Evo was on display in the Burger Fuel/Sony stand. All the work done by local garage E&H Motors was on display for all to see.

New Zealand’s Transport Minister Steven Joyce had the honour of unveiling both the NZV8 ‘Car of the Future’ and also the Lotus F1 car. Both can be found later in the post.

They say pictures speak a thousand words. The only words I can think of when I look at this is “Three Massive Turbos!”.

The NZV8 Series were showing off their “Car of the future”, while only metres away, V8 Supertourers were doing the same with theirs. The tension could have been cut with a knife.

To be honest, Bono was the last person I was expecting to see at Speedshow. Not sure who would want him airbrushed on the hood of their car though.

Applying a vinyl coating to your car is becoming more of a popular practice these days. Why not when it is far easier to undo than paint.

BMW have just released a M Spec version of their 135i. This car was nuts in the first place, would love to see this one go flat tack.

Maybe not the biggest speed demon at the show, but this “Sweedish Delight” Scania sure makes it’s presence known.

Shane van Gisbergen made an appearance with his Stone Brothers Racing Falcon. He is sitting nicely at 3rd on the V8 Supercar Ladder at present. Cool to see a little kid getting his photo next to the car in the corner.

Keeping with the Ford theme, here was a seriously worked new age Mustang. Very nice, but they just don’t make ‘em like they used to.

All ages were catered for; however I think this BMW kids trike is going to set you back a fair chunk of cash.

But the star of the show was this Lotus F1 race car. Some serious hours have been put into polishing it.

So shiny! I don’t think that there is any angle that a F1 car doesn’t look good from.
