FRESHLY WHIPPED – ON THE HUNT FOR KEN BLOCK AT WRC 2012 – AUCKLAND

So I got a call from Nic at NZBlokes.co.nz to head over to the WRC to try catch up with Ken Block – I figured why not, I am a fan and was pretty damn keen to meet the man behind the wheel.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nAfter wandering around for a bit we finally spotted his little Ford Fiesta waiting  in queue for timing. The graphics on this car are quite amazing and the car surely is one of the best looking in the series – in my opinion.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nMoving up in queue he was put next to his fellow Ford driver Manfred Stohl. This Fiestas look pretty damn cool all done up for WRC.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nOnto the timing section to clock in for the day.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nWith Stohl off first..\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nAnd Ken coming through soon after.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nStay Behind Tape, and try hold yourself  back from trying to hop in this car..\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nWhat a way to cruise in style. The sound of these machines is quite amazing, you wouldn’t expect a little Fiesta to sound so good.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nWithin seconds the car is propped up and everyone is set out to work on their designated section within the time limit. These guys nearly pull the whole car to pieces to ensure it’s completely fine for the next stage.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nI would also have to bet that their cable tie collection was bigger than most drifters..\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nChanging the wheel? Nah why not just redo the entire section instead. These guys put in a hell of a lot of work.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n(Brace for a bad photo) Also, a shout out to this dude who gave us a bunch of Hoonigan stickers for free. What a GC. If you see this dude above, comment below!\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nIt turns out we weren’t the only ones who wanted to meet the man either..\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nHe’s also a pretty tall dude in real life, but the guy getting the signature was funnily enough also quite tall..\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nIt’s quite neat seeing these cars come straight in and be jacked up within seconds of arriving. The backdrop for the pits is quite neat too..\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nMoving into the inside they had a pretty damn cool setup going for slot cars which seemed to be a match to the Auckland Domain special stage.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nThis Ralli Art Evo 10 looked damn nice and clean too. It’s nice to see an Evo not lowered for a change, they are 4WD Rally beasts after all..\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nlast time we encountered Possums old Impreza down at Leadfoot festival with Emma Gilmour driving. You can catch our coverage from that event in this months NZPerformance Car Magazine.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nAnd to conclude, this MG has one hell of a dope widebody kit. These are the rally cars I love – bring back the classics!\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nHere’s our collaboration video with NZBlokes also.\r\n\r\nSadly due to other commitments I wasn’t able to get out to any of the stages but for some good solid coverage look out on Autofocused.\r\n\r\n-Chris\r\n\r\n
