FRESHLY WHIPPED – Kumeu Hot Rod Festival

As the Kumeu Hot Rod Festival was the second post I ever did on here (original post here), I figured I better go back and relive the experience. The Kumeu Hot Rod show is an annual event showcasing classic American cars, V8’s and has a swap meet on the side. We headed out as a cruising group on the Sunday, which was sadly shocking for weather – but we went anyway.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nHere you can see a classic Bedford pickup, done in matte black – looking tough.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nAs you can see the rain was hazing over these classics. Due to the weather a few cars decided to head off a bit early (11am..)\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nThis 1970 Falcon GT was a personal favourite of mine, the immaculate paint work and overall look of the car is amazing. These cars are attracting huge money over in their home country of Australia.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nThis fellow wanted to show us how he could drift his little buggy by reaching around and grabbing the handbrake.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nAnd yes it’s running NOS. That is one hell of a Holden.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nBrendon from D1NZ had 3 V8 cars on display. Apparently the folks weren’t too keen on seeing a Mazda at the event, but rest assured it does have a V8.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nHellaflush? Lowriders were doing it before y’all – Thunderbird style.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nNot only classics were on display, this latest shape Camaro was also on display. A common site for American readers, but not so much for us Kiwis.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nAs some of the cars were leaving, this Corvette poked around the corner.  As a classic icon of American power, the Corvette is an icon still heavily loved today.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nThis classic V8 Pickup was parked up for the Woodstock stand. Can’t have a West Auckland hot rod show without a Woodies stand!\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nStihl had a stand for competitors throwing axes and chopping logs. Manly man stuff.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nClassic Nascar stlying. Loving the steel race wheels and blue paint. Pure American awesomeness.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nHidden away in a tent was this immaculate 69 Camaro SS. A dream car for any American car lovers.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nIt’s like a gang of perfect 1950’s Ford Pickups!\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nDodge Challenger- like all the cars at this show, immaculate.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nErr car, yeah right.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nSitting tough in the rain was this ’69 Mercury Cyclone. Classically staunch.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nAlthough not American, and not modified (not as far as I can see..), this Evo was looking great chilling in the carpark.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nCheck out the Kumeu hot rod show! Annually on mid way through January each year. Awesome show for anyone into cars.\r\n\r\nAlso, T4T will be announced this week. I’m sure many of you are annoyed wondering what it is, but I can assure you it’s awesome. So don’t worry too much now.\r\n\r\n-Chris
