FRESHLY WHIPPED @ CODY’S D1NZ ROUND 2 – TOLL RACING CIRCUIT WHANGAREI – DAY 2

Back for day two and the weather was sunny as hell and full on heat. Much better than the last time we drifted Whangarei, but still horrible to deal with. I prepared myself with an entire bottle of sunscreen and multiple hats to ensure I was covered, like many others did. But as this is Whangarei, the crowds were out in their masses to support their local boys.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nWe left the motel, leaving some friends to roll through later in their lowrider. Straight outta’ Compton.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nCars were already waiting to get into it, such as the V8 madness of Mac Kwok. He seemed to be having a few issues with the mechanical side of it.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nSky’s was chilling indoors with the big 5.7L V8 showing under the hood.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nOnce again Brendon looked awfully happy at the briefing.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nWarren stole my hat and looked rather uhhh… traditional.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nOk into the Drifting. Redward’s FC was looking dope on day two with the big Haraguchi style GT Wing still intact.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nSellers Laurel was looking clean and a lot better off than this time last Whangarei round.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nMac Kwok’s car looks awesome lately. Not sure what the change is exactly, but I’m liking the car this season.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nFanga of Fanga-rei’s Holden was acting staunch as usual with Fanga seeming quite confident behind the wheel of the home turf course.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nOnto the battles. Pro Am division saw Joe Kukutai come up against Matt Lauder in the battle for third and fourth. Joe seemed to push quite well with good proximity, matching Matt’s moves.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nAnd Darren Kelly versus Jacob Hakaraia, with Jacob’s Onevia posing a great threat to the R32 of Darren Kelly’s.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nIn a surprising turn of events, Cole Armstrong was knocked out in his Top 16 battle by Drew Donovan.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nCam was knocked out of his top 16 battle by Fanga Dan.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nFanga came up against Zak Pole where both drivers had a major spin/stuff up, with then end verdict putting Fanga through.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nAndrew Redward and Carl Ruiterman came up against each other in the battle of GT Wings with Achilles Radial driver Andrew Redward coming out on top.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nAfter having a waiting period with judge discussion, Troy Forsythe was sent out to put on some entertainment. Mad props to the driver and crew for coming all the way up to Whangarei. Love it.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nInto top 4 ‘South side’ driver Nico Reid put on an awesome display of driving that lead Curt to spin and end up with him left in a mechanic problem.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nInto the final two saw Fanga Dan after winning his battle with Andrew Redward, up against Nico Reid.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nDarren’s partner Hayley was waiting with anticipation as the names were called for the podium spots.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nLuckily she didn’t have much to worry about with her man Darren coming out on top, with Jacob in second and Matt Lauder in third.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nAnd in the Pro Division we saw Fanga Dan come out on top with Nico Reid in second and Andrew Redward in third. Nico had some trouble opening his bottle.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nSkids out for the boys! Fanga put his V8 power and lead-foot to use to create a decent amount of smoke.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nVika seemed to heavily enjoy the skid action.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nThe skids managed to allow for some great leftovers.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nOn the trip home we saw the likes of the Lauder brothers with their semi matching cars.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nAuckland also put on a funky skyline for us too. This one isn’t RB powered however.\r\n\r\nAnother round over with, and onto the next. Round 3 is the Cody’s D1NZ summer stop over in Mount Maunganui. Should be a rad weekend and a rad bit of drifting.\r\n\r\n-Chris
