FRESHLY WHIPPED AT TAUPO – DMNZ DRIFT DAY 31/07/11

Drift Motorsport NZ is a New Zealand practice drift day held all over the North Island. This time round Taupo turned on a perfect winters day which made for a great day of drifting!

For such a large car, the Nissan Laurel is an amazing drift car. There is something special about seeing a large 4 door sedan ripping up the track, sideways.

Eddie Hayman was progressing well through out the day. After a few minor problems he was laying down some awesome passes!

Massive angle, loads of tyre smoke and tonnes of steering lock. Nico Reid got right into it and was consistent the whole day.

The Milwaukee sponsored S13 of Mac Kwok was out in force again. Still sporting love taps from previous weekend’s Speedshow lets everyone know he means business.

This driver of this clean S13 was getting some good pratice in. Rumoured to have around 170kw, he proved that loads of power is not as vital as a good car setup and driving skills.

Breaking all the trends of the day was Jodie in her Supra. The only girl out drifting and driving a Toyota in sea of Nissan’s.

C34 Laurel with a 1UZ anyone? An interesting setup, only to become better once a manual conversion has been completed.

Mark Burling in his eye catching S15 was making some big passes. The fluoro orange livery works so well on this car. Subtle but effective.

The 180SX is such an iconic drift car, yet we see very few of them drifting in NZ. Hopefully they will gain a larger following as they look great going sideways.

One of the top performers of the day was Dave Steedman in his Cefiro. This thing was producing tyre smoke like it was going out of fashion, something we all love to see.

Car look familiar? “Shaneo” the new owner of Gary’s RB26 powered S15 was showing that he has some serious talent. This drift day was only one of his first, yet he was putting on a great show for the crowd.

This Laurel was making clouds come off the rear!

Nico and his drift warrior “Tanefa” had a great day out on track. Eating through tyres with his big angle, foot to the floor drifting style.

Big thanks to Drew Donovan for organising such a great day. Looking forward to the next DMNZ drift day, coming up on Monday 15 August at Hampton.
