FRESHLY WHIPPED @ D1NZ FINAL DAY 2
So another season is over. That went rather quick. With the final heating up to be a very action based set of battles, there were many still in the running for the final overall season champion. With Gaz Whiter looking to claim the title for the fourth year, many drivers such as Mad Mike Whiddett and Curt Whittaker were looking to take the title off his hands.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nHugo and Troy had their cars packed into Hampton Down’s pits ready for the morning start.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nStraight into the briefing with all the drivers standing around.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nThis mint AE86 popped off a trailer out to do some drift sessions on the skidpan.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nStraight into the practice runs saw a cool little battle between two legends – Fanga Dan and Gaz Whiter.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nMike was putting out some huge streaks of smoke as usual.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nAs was Nico Reid.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nWhich was good as the fan crew was truly out in force.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nWalking through the pits saw some of the damage done to Steven Soles Chaser, thus putting him out and into Cam Vernon’s car for the weekend.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nSpeaking of Cam, what a happy looking bugger.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nA car I’m very happy to see back home is Mike’s RX8. Still rocking the Formula D gear, even with the numbers, the car is really quite ‘USDM’ so to speak. Will be good to see it out competing on home turf again.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nThe much anticipated ‘heli comp’ began with Hard N Fast crew rolling out their many classic Evo’s and thrashing them sideways. Those guys really had some decent control over the 4WD systems.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nThe infamous final 16 line up, with the many media scrambling photos.\r\n\r\nNigel seemed to be right at home next to a couple of blondes.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nThe top 16 battles saw Darren Benjamin up against veteran Mad Mike Whiddett, with Mike going through.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nNigel put up an impressive fight in Matt’s S14, but Fanga took out the win.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nBruce Tannock ended up dirt dropping, putting Brad Lauder through.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nAs shown above, the media were out in force for the event. After a long battle between the drivers, Fanga was put through.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nThis semi final battle saw Jason Sellers go up against Curt Whittaker with Curt going through to the final.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nRunner up final battle saw Jason Sellers vs Bradley Lauder.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nAnd the final battle hosted Curt and Fanga Dan.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nOnto the podium saw Hans Ruiterman take out the overall Pro Time Attack league.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nKing Cam took out the D1NZ Pro Am Round 6 and overall, with Will Foster in second and Vincent Hopkins in third overall.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nThe champagne got a little out of hand and ended up with Vika getting soaked. Fair enough.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nCurt took out first place in Round 6, with Fanga in second and Brad Lauder in third. Curt looks pretty happy?\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nOnto the overall placings we have Curt in first, Mike in second and Fanga in third.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nCurt happily put the R34 through hell in the victory skids..\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nSo much so that the cambelt started to unravel and had him stopped early.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nCam also made his tyres cloud up with ease in his R32!\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nMuch like Curt, Mike was stopped before the tyres destroyed the car completely with it starting a fire.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nWell that’s another season over. Until next time, KING CAM!\r\n\r\nMore info at http://www.d1nz.com/\r\n\r\nAlso a big thanks to Joey from Jacked It for letting me try some of his lenses!
