FRESHLY WHIPPED AT HORI DORI DRIFT DAY – 02/07/2011
After going to sleep at 4am for the past few weeks, a change of sleeping hours was in order. The second Hori Dori Drift Day was on and I wanted to be there early.
\r\n
\r\n
Hori Dori is a grassroots drift day based at the back of Meremere Dragstrip. Drivers come down the hill, enter the first corner and then work around cones along the straight. Notice the Mighty Waikato early morning fog?
\r\n
\r\n
Some showed up in trailers, where as most drove.
\r\n
\r\n
But it didn’t take long for this Laurel to get out and shred some tyres. Early morning tyre smoke is amazing.
\r\n
\r\n
This S14 had the first corner sorted with a fast entry. I’m wondering if we may see this car in the D1NZ rookies soon? The car seems prepared for it.
\r\n
\r\n
Sticking with Silvia’s, this one was at the last drift day. The car has since had a boso pipe attached to the exhaust. We need more boso in NZ.
\r\n
\r\n
Greer had his S14 out going awesome as usual. The car is what I call ‘brutiful’. Brutal, yet beautiful.
\r\n
\r\n
This old Datsun was out like a battle car, with it’s taxi sign and shark fin on the roof!
\r\n
\r\n
As the day went on, more people were trying tandem runs. These two were getting to the point of trying 3 car tandems. Hori Dori is surely helping to improve some drivers skills!
\r\n
\r\n
The Laurel Car Club* was surely out in force. Laurels are common in the grassroot scene as they are a cheap means of getting sideways with Nissan power.
\r\n
\r\n
A photo of Zerofighter Greer, taking a photo of a Zerofighter drifting. Inception..? Hmm.
\r\n
\r\n
Last time we saw Mitch’s 180sx it was half primered and painted, with it now completely matte black. Mitch is getting pretty good at drifting!
\r\n
\r\n
Loving the pink rear wheels!
\r\n
\r\n
This Supra like a few cars, nearly went 3 wheels around the first corner! I guess you could say this shot is ground level?
\r\n
\r\n
More of the Laurel Owners club*. These cars are big, but with many boasting RB25DET’s power is not a problem. They still easily get sideways.
\r\n
\r\n
And lastly, more of Greer’s car. What’s not to love. Seriously.
\r\n
Sadly there was a few casualties on the day, with one Laurel having it’s whole front burnt off. Mitch also scraped the wall, which will no doubt give him something to do for a few weeks!
\r\n
Check out Hori Dori Drift Day on Facebook for more info! Just add them on Facebook.
\r\n
More photos on the Facebook page as usual.

*Not a real car club. I think.
