FRESHLY WHIPPED AT HAMPTON DOWNS: RALLY NZ HIGH OCTANE – THE DRIFTING
With the start of the rally season approaching, High Octane at Hampton Downs allowed for people to come and get a glimpse at many different forms of motorsport. There was something for all ages, with classic cars and drift cars.
In this post we’ll go over the drift section of the day with some of the guys also mucking around on the skid pad.

\r\n
Daynom Templeman was out sporting a new livery on his RX7. As usual he has no trouble smoking his tyres up.
\r\n
\r\n
Jason Sellers was out in his brothers car, keeping it sideways in the GRiD livery inspired S14. Hopefully the Laurel will be sorted again for next season.
\r\n
\r\n
Andrew Redward looking clean as usual. I still think his S14 has one of the coolest liveries in the Pro’s.
\r\n
\r\n
Mad Mike’s 26B powered RX7 is one of those cars I struggle to get a bad photo of. I don’t know how else to describe it but ‘photogenic’. His drift style also adds to the photos.
\r\n
\r\n
Local boy Carl Ruiterman had his S14 sliding on the skid pad perfectly as usual. He recently won Pukekohe and Hampton Downs D1NZ rounds, with a third overall placing.
\r\n
\r\n
Hugo was out as usual in his F20C powered AE85/86. He told us that he’s changing up the car for next season, with the F20C now up on TradeMe. Can’t wait to see what replaces it.
\r\n
\r\n
He may be a youngin’ but Neko Reid surely knows how to run with the big boys. His lead foot style shows with him powering into corners and blasting away at his competition, even leaving Carl in the smoke.
\r\n
\r\n
Mad Mike took the RX7 out onto the skid pad for a bit as well. The skid pad is incredibly slippery. On a wet day you must keep the car moving at all times to ensure it won’t get stuck.
\r\n
\r\n
Daynom’s car is quickly becoming much like that of Mad Mikes. The more he changes the livery, the more it becomes more photogenic. Either that or I just love RX7’s. One or the other.
\r\n
\r\n
Hugo was nice enough to let us chuck a sticker on his car, next to some of the big boys like Engineered to Slide and Stay Classy. Cheers Hugo!
\r\n
\r\n
The ‘RATTLA’ Ford was out giving drifting a try. With the coloured tyres, smoke was at easy access.
\r\n
\r\n
That’s enough of the drifting. Keep a look out for the next post, with more action from High Octane at Hampton Downs.
